For Hotel Sumratin in Dubrovnik, we were entrusted with developing the complete wayfinding strategy, signage design, production, as well as installation. From the very beginning, wayfinding was conceived as an integral part of the architectural and interior experience rather than an applied graphic layer. Our approach focused on achieving a level of refinement that aligns with the hotel’s understated sense of luxury, allowing signage to exist as a natural extension of the space rather than a visual interruption.
This philosophy was expressed through the use of precision CNC-milled aluminium boards, where the material itself becomes the medium of communication. By milling away the aluminium and leaving the typography and symbols subtly raised, each sign gains depth, tactility, and a crafted presence. The technique introduces a nuanced play of light and shadow, allowing information to reveal itself gently as guests move through the hotel. To complement the character of the interiors, we chose patinated and natural bronze finishes—materials that feel grounded, warm, and quietly confident, reinforcing a sense of timeless elegance throughout the space.
Rather than relying on showy interventions, the wayfinding system is defined by subtle design gestures and a clear focus on clarity, utility, and genuine respect for the guest. Wayfinding across the hotel was carefully curated to remain thoughtful and discreet, guiding movement intuitively without visual noise. Different user groups—hotel guests, staff, and visitors—were considered in the hierarchy, messaging, and placement of information, resulting in a system that supports seamless orientation while preserving the calm, refined atmosphere of the hotel.
